The Federal Railroad Administration has announced a funding opportunity under the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Program. Applications are Due June 22, 2026 11:59 PM ET. See the Notice of Funding Opportunity for details on how to submit. Projects eligible for Local Highway Jurisdictions include:
- Highway-rail grade crossing improvement projects;
- Any project necessary to enhance multimodal connections or facilitate service integration between rail service and other modes;
- Deployment of railroad safety technology;
The CRISI program requires a 20% local match and projects will be evaluated based on project readiness and technical merit. Previous successful awards in Idaho have been projects that have eliminated private rail crossings, crossing/signal upgrades and rail realignment reducing highway closures.
