The Narrows – Ribbon Cutting

On Wednesday, November 6th, current and past Oneida County Commissioners celebrated the end of construction of Old Highway 37, The Narrows. The initial design started on the $7M roadway project in 2009. Approximately 3.7 miles of Old Highway 37, located adjacent to Rock Creek, was reconstructed. Located about 6 miles north of Holbrook, the roadway has been closed since April and reopened November 15th. (more…)

Communities across the United States are working to improve mobility, safety and comfort for bicyclists and pedestrians. Unique problems are faced by non-motorized road users in work zones, where temporary street and sidewalk closures can present significant challenges. During this webinar, participants will learn about the importance of maintaining mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists and other road users when streets are under construction. Panelists from the Federal Highway Administration (Keith Sinclair, Martha Kapitonov and Patrick Gomez) will share guidance and requirements for maintaining access through work zones. Melissa Anderson (Transportation Accessibility and Safety Consultant) will discuss unique challenges faced by those with visual, mobility, hearing or cognitive impairments when traveling through work zones. Finally, Matthew Marcou (District Department of Transportation) will share strategies being used in Washington, DC, to maintain access for pedestrians and bicyclists in work zones. Panelists will respond to questions from the audience following their presentations.
