Peer Exchange Workshop

We would like to invite you to participate in a Local Road Safety Plan Peer Exchange to be held on September 26-27 in Boise. The purpose of the peer exchange is to learn about local road safety plans and discuss how they might be used in Idaho to develop and identify local safety improvements. FHWA, in partnership with LHTAC and ITD will host the peer exchange for Idaho’s local agencies. Travel expenses where appropriate will be reimbursed by FHWA.
Background:
Nearly half of Idaho’s annual fatal and serious injury crashes occur on the road system that is owned and operated by local agencies. To effectively reduce fatal and serious injury crashes on the local system, many states are undertaking the development of Local Road Safety Plans (LRSPs). A Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP) provides a framework for identifying, analyzing, and prioritizing roadway safety improvements on local and rural roads. The process of preparing an LRSP facilitates partnerships, offers a proactive approach to addressing safety needs, and demonstrates agency responsiveness to safety challenges. The development and the content of the LRSP are tailored to local needs and issues. It results in a prioritized list of improvements and actions that will reduce fatalities and serious injuries on the local road network and supports the goals of a State’s overall strategic highway safety plan.

Intended Audience: Road Foreman, Road Supervisors, Public Works Director, Planners, and Local Highway Jurisdictions interested in identifying road safety opportunities
