Flood Training for Locals

Course: L0273 Managing Floodplain Development through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)

Target Audience:

Local officials responsible for administering local floodplain management ordinances, including floodplain management administration, building inspectors, code enforcement/zoning officers, planners, city/county managers, attorneys, engineers, and public work officials. Federal/state/regional floodplain managers are also encouraged to attend. The course is designed for those officials with less than three years of floodplain management experience.

Managing Floodplain Development through the NFIP (L-273)

This course is designed to provide an organized training opportunity for local officials responsible for administering their local floodplain management ordinance. The course will focus on the NFIP and concepts of floodplain management, maps and studies, ordinance administration, and the relationship between floodplain management and flood insurance.

Class Prerequisites Required:

Participants must complete the following online tutorials:

  1. Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) tutorial at http://www.floodmaps.fema.gov/tutorials/ot_firm.swf (30 minutes)
  2. Federal Insurance Studies (FIS) tutorial at http://www.floodmaps.fema.gov/tutorials/ot_fis.swf (40 minutes)

Class is free!

Costs: per diem, mileage, & hotel costs are not provided
The class requires an application in advance (Walk-ins are not permitted)

Friday, May 18, 2018 time TBD following the L-273 course
Friday, August 17, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. following the L-273 course
