May in Motion!

May in Motion is a month long campaign through ACHD-Commuteride and Valley Regional Transit to promote alternative transportation in the workplace.  LHTAC employees will be participating once again this year and we encourage other agencies to join in as well. With a little more than two weeks till kickoff, you have time to…. (more…)

3D Engineered Models: Schedule, Cost and Post-Production

Every Day Counts

April’s innovation of the month is 3D Engineered Models, a basic building block of today’s digital highway that allows for faster, more accurate and more efficient planning and construction.

After encouraging the adoption of 3D Engineered Models in the second round of Every Day Counts, the Federal Highway Administration is continuing to promote the technology in EDC3 to help the transportation community reap even more benefits. (more…)

Idaho Bridge Project Uses 4D Modeling

Firms working on the design of the Manning Crevice Bridge replacement in Idaho are using 3D engineered models to facilitate project delivery. The architecture and engineering firm designing the project developed a 3D model of the bridge, then worked with the construction manager/general contractor to develop a time-lapse 3D, or 4D, model that shows the construction sequencing. Replacing the 1930s-era suspension bridge over the Salmon River is a cooperative effort of Federal Lands Highway, Idaho County and the U.S. Forest Service.

Project Overview

The Manning Crevice Bridge is a 248-foot long one-lane suspension bridge that crosses the Salmon River.  Constructed in 1934, the current condition of the bridge is poor and is not up to today’s bridge design standards.  Idaho County and the U.S. Forest Service are recommending that the bridge be replaced or rehabilitated.  This project will identify alternatives to replace or rehabilitate the bridge and provide a recommendation.

The Manning Crevice Bridge project is a cooperative effort between Western Federal Lands Highway Division (WFLHD), Idaho County, and the U.S. Forest Service. Funding for the bridge replacement is included in the current Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and the Idaho Forest Highway program scheduled for construction in fall 2014.

Every Day Counts Video Highlights Innovation

California Department of Transportation Director Malcolm Dougherty, South Carolina Transportation Secretary Janet Oakley, Oregon Department of Transportation Director Matthew Garrett and other leaders talk
about the value of innovation in a new FHWA video, Every Day Counts: Efficiency Through Technology and
Collaboration
. They were interviewed during a series of summits held last fall to introduce the EDC-3 innovations FHWA is promoting in 2015 and 2016.

Geosynthetic Reinforces Soil-Integrated Bridge System

EDC News http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/everydaycounts/edcnews/02052015.cfm

Geosynthetic reinforced soil-integrated bridge system technology is an Every Day Counts innovation that can help reduce bridge construction time and cost. Because they are easy to build and use common equipment and materials, GRS-IBS projects can be built in weeks instead of months. (more…)
