Lightning Safety on the Job

Lightning Safety Awareness Week is June 22-28, 2014

Some workers are at greater risk than others

People who work outdoors in open spaces, on or near tall objects, with explosives, or with conductive materials such as metal have a large exposure to lightning risks. Workers in these occupations are among those with the most risk:

  • Logging
  • Explosives handling or storage
  • Heavy equipment operation
  • Plumbing and pipefitting
  • Construction and building maintenance
  • Farming and field labor
  • Telecommunications field repair
  • Power utility field repair

This is a 4 page brochure referenced in Section 2A.08 of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), and outlines the methods and procedures that make each method reliable and meaningful in its use to maintain signs above the minimum retroreflectivity levels.

Join the Northwest TTAP and the EWU Tribal Planning Programs at the Riverpoint Campus near downtown Spokane for an exceptional learning opportunity. They will offer two intensive classes, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, including a one-day tour and field research project scheduled on a nearby reservation.

ATSSA Grant Courses May 2014

ATSSA Traffic Control Grant Courses

Control Courses American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) was awarded a four-year grant from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to provide roadway safety training nationwide for workers and others who make their livelihood on America’s roadways.

This allows ATSSA to offer a special fee of $25 per person/per class for the following classes:

May 29, 2014 – Traffic Control Technician-Grant

May 30-31 2014 – Traffic Control Supervisor-Grant
