Spring breakup is coming – pavement breakup that is

Already this winter many locations in Idaho have received historic amounts of precipitation, much of it as snowfall. Along with this precipitation have been weeks of unseasonable cold with several days of rainfall in between.  What does this winter’s harsh conditions mean for the spring?  We should prepare to deal with unprecedented levels of pavement breakup.

Call for Applications

The Office of Highway Safety administers the Federal Highway Safety Programs, which currently are funded by formula through the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST-ACT) and the Highway Safety Act of 1966. The goal of the program is to eliminate deaths and serious injuries resulting from motor vehicle crashes by implementing programs designed to address driver behaviors. The purpose of the program is to provide funding at the state and community level for a highway safety program that addresses Idaho’s own unique circumstances and particular highway safety needs.   (more…)

2017 Spring Class Schedule

The LHTAC T2 Center offers a variety of courses aimed to grow and aid our local road professionals. The upcoming class schedule has been released. Classes will open for registration in phases based on class location:

  • Northern Idaho Registration Opens February 14
  • Western & South Central Idaho Registration Opens February 15
  • Eastern Idaho Registration Opens February 16

Vegetation Control for Safety

The purpose of this guide is to help local road agency maintenance workers identify locations where vegetation control is needed to improve traffic and pedestrian safety, to provide guidance for maintenance crews, and to make them aware of safe ways to mow, cut brush and otherwise control roadside vegetation.
