Tips for great photos

Compelling subject

  • Photos with people performing active work look better than an empty road.
  • Bridges can be beautiful, walk around to find the best angle to capture the best shot.
  • Wait for a facility to be used and capture that moment. Capture kids using a new crosswalk or several vehicles entering and inside a roundabout.

Lighting

  • Most of the time, the best lighting will be behind you, the photographer. at least, it won’t be directly in front of you. If the sun is on the other side of what you’re capturing, it will be dark and hard to see.
  • The “golden hour” is the hour after sunrise and after sunset. Capturing photos during these times can have a dramatic impact on the final product.

Framing

  • Make sure you are getting everything you want captured in the frame. This can be especially tough with big structures or tight spaces.
  • Drone photography is becoming more and more common and it’s a great way to capture a unique and compelling angle while also giving you the distance to capture everything you want.
