Remembering Lan Smith

It is with a heavy heart that we share with you that we lost an LHTAC employee.  Lan Smith and his wife Pam died in a plane crash last week.

LHTAC is grieving for the loss of a coworker, close friend, and wonderful human being. Lan was known for his kind heart and contagious smile. He had a true passion for serving his community and helping all local jurisdictions.

As a Gem County Commissioner, Lan served on the LHTAC Council from 2007 to 2015. Lan continued with LHTAC after serving on the Council as the Local Liaison from 2015 until his passing.

Their obituary can be found HERE.

Intercity Bus Open House Meetings

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD), together with KFH Group, Inc., is working to update the state’s intercity bus study, which was completed in 2011. The initial purpose of this study is to meet a Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) requirement to conduct a consultation process to assess unmet needs for rural intercity bus service at least every four years. Additionally, the project intends to examine services funded  by the existing program and provide recommendations regarding any needed changes in the services or the program. This analysis addresses intercity bus services operated by private for-profit firms (Greyhound Lines, Northwestern Trailways, Jefferson Lines, and Salt Lake Express), focusing on routes that are receiving funding through ITD under the FTA Section 5311(f) program of assistance for rural intercity bus service.
