The winner of this year’s photo contest is Ashley Lohrengel from Horrocks Engineers with a construction photo of the City of Middleton’s Federal-aid project on South Cemetery Road; SH 44 to Willow Creek. Her photo will be published as our next cover photo on the LHTAC website and will be used in the FY21 Annual Report. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place photos will be printed, framed, and displayed in the LHTAC office with credit to the photographers. Winners will also receive a framed copy of their photo. All photos submitted will be used in future LHTAC marketing materials, including the 2022 LHTAC promotional calendar.
The West 9th Street Project,
The West 9th Street Project started in February 2021, but was built from an idea in early 2008. This project’s biggest motivation was to widen the bridge to at least a two-lane road. Another goal for this project was to remove the existing dog leg at Indianhead and West 9th. Not only was the City of Weiser able to conclude these two goals for this project, but also were able to go above and beyond. West 9th Street has a smooth and much nicer finish. There were over a hundred participants included in this project. As looking for the future in upcoming projects, the City of Weiser is always replacing water and sewer main every year. The water department has recently been GPS surveying the entire water system in our town. Within the next year, the City of Weiser looks forward to starting chip sealing roads for their next street project.

Applications Season is Coming
Want to know which funding applications to start planning for?
LHTAC applications will be released in mid to late September 2021 but we anticipate no major changes to the content from previous years. This round LHTAC will be accepting applications for TAP, LRHIP, Children Pedestrian Safety, and LHSIP. Feel free to view last year’s applications on our website and start planning to apply.
Also, Western Federal Lands will be accepting FLAP applications. The FLAP application was released in September.

The Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC) provides an important linkage between Local Highway Jurisdictions (LHJs) and the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) in the utilization of Federal-aid highway funds available to the LHJs in Idaho. These quarterly progress reports include the status listing of current and upcoming LHTAC projects for each district.
