OHS FFY19 Grant Applications Now Being Accepted

Greetings Idaho Highway Safety Partner:

We are now accepting applications for Idaho Office of Highway Safety/National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) federal grants for federal fiscal year 2019 (FFY19). Grant funding supports priority highway safety program areas including safety restraint use, distracted driving, impaired driving, aggressive driving, youthful drivers, roadway safety/traffic records, and other problem areas.  The open grant period begins Monday, January 8th, 2018 and concludes at end of business on February 8th, 2018. 2017 LHJs Report on House Bill 312

HB312 directed LHTAC to submit an annual report informing the legislature on the use of the money and ongoing maintenance funding needs on the local system.

LHTAC developed a simple way to report the usage of funds as a part of the Road and Street Finance Report that each jurisdiction is already required to submit, thus not adding burden and unwanted paperwork.

The clear and concise report shows local highway jurisdictions are complying with the Idaho Legislature’s direction on how to utilize the additional funds.

Most jurisdictions file their report online, so the information is available immediately. A paper submittal is still allowed.  With a paper submittal, the report is sent to the State Controller’s Office, then forwarded to the Idaho Transportation Department and then LHTAC receives the information last.  This has created a timing problem to report all information to the legislature by the first day of the session.  LHTAC is working with ITD to find solutions to this problem.  We will continue to collect the information and update this report to the Statehouse in 45 days.

The report shows continuing significant shortfall with the estimated $328.8 million dollars of statewide local needs that have not been addressed.  This year shows a significant increase in other maintenance due to the record storm events of last year.

2018 Road to Zero Are Now Accepting Grant Applications!

The Road to Zero Coalition’s 2018 Safe System Innovation Grants cycle is now open until the end of January. Grants will be awarded in the spring. We are eager to advance the deployment of our Proven Safety Countermeasures, targeting local and rural roads through this grant program. State DOTs, local and municipal transportation agencies and others are eligible to apply. (more…)

Road and Street Reports are Due

Don’t forget! Your Annual Road & Street Financial Reports are due December 31, 2017 to the state controller.

Emergency Relief Funding – Round 4

The Idaho Office of Emergency Management (IOEM) has announced that additional funds (Round 4) from the Emergency Relief Fund will be available to local road jurisdictions in Idaho.  This will fund up to $10 million in projects for permanent repair or restoration of roadway and bridge infrastructure. For the application criteria and the guidelines, requirements, etc., please refer to the link under Hot Topics at www.ioem.idaho.gov .

 

  • Projects must meet Public Assistance Program and Policy Guide (PAPPG) Category C eligibility.
  • Applications must be complete to be considered. 
  • Funding will be on a reimbursement basis, however financial hardship accommodations may be made.

 

If you did not apply in the previous rounds, have a completed project without being awarded reimbursement, or have outstanding projects that should be completed please consider applying for the 4th round of funding.
