June 2019 Quarterly Progress Report

The Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC) provides an important linkage between Local Highway Jurisdictions (LHJs) and the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) in the utilization of Federal-aid highway funds available to the LHJs in Idaho. These quarterly progress reports include the status listing of current and upcoming LHTAC projects for each district.

Bridge Bundling Guidebook Now Available

FHWA has published a Bridge Bundling Guidebook, a how-to manual that leads users through 10 steps for developing an effective bundling program.

Although the guide focuses on bridges, the information can be broadly applied to develop bundles that maximize agency resources on all types of projects, such as safety, pavements, and traffic operations. Topics covered

include project delivery methods, funding and financing, coalition building, and risk assessment. The guide includes readily useable tools to assist in delivering bundled projects, including selection criteria, sample contract documents, and case studies.

Public Transportation Summit July 30-Aug. 1 in Boise

Attention Locals – Don’t miss this free 3 Day training in Boise

The Public Transportation Summit, hosted by the Idaho Transportation Department’s Public Transportation (ITD-PT) Office, is in its third year and features new trainings from subject-matter experts in a variety of fields.
 
Specifically geared toward agencies that provide public transportation or have a vested interested in transit, the event will be held July 30 through August 1 in Boise.
 
“The annual summit will assist existing or new recipients of public transportation funding in obtaining training and information to be successful. Our goal is to continually support and promote coordination between agencies, local stakeholders, and organizations with a focus on sustaining and improving public-transportation services,” explained Shauna Miller, Grants Officer with ITD’s Public Transportation Office.

  • Problem: The handheld 2-way radios used by Jefferson County employees during flagging operations were chronically unreliable due to their inherent inability to reach County radio repeaters. If a project was more than 2 miles away from a fixed repeater, the 2-way radios were extremely sporadic in their effectiveness. This made the flagging operations more dangerous for the flaggers and the paving and chipping crews for projects on Jefferson County roads.
