Distracted Driving Awareness Month

Technology allows us to make phone calls, dictate texts or emails and update social media while driving – all actions that are proven to increase crash risk. The National Safety Council observes April as Distracted Driving Awareness Month to draw attention to this epidemic. NSC wants to empower you to put safety first and Just Drive.

Just Drive Pledge

I pledge to Just Drive for my own safety and for others with whom I share the roads. I choose to not drive distracted in any way – I will not:

  • Have a phone conversation – handheld, hands-free, or via Bluetooth
  • Text or send Snapchats
  • Use voice-to-text features in my vehicle’s dashboard system
  • Update Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vimeo, Vine or other social media
  • Check or send emails
  • Take selfies or film videos
  • Input destinations into GPS (while the vehicle is in motion)
  • Call or message someone else when I know they are driving

Now’s the time for YOU to Go Orange!

Go Orange Day is Wednesday, April 5, held in conjunction with National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW), April 3-7. This is also an important time to show your support of the roadway safety industry, especially for the families of victims who have lost their lives in work zones.

This year for Go Orange Day, ATSSA is expanding our focus to not only photos, but also videos. ATSSA wants to see videos of you or a group wearing orange and telling us why you support Go Orange Day and NWZAW, doing something fun, safe and creative.

To show your support this year:

  • Script your great idea and produce a video
  • Post the video (always remember: safety first), not to exceed 15 seconds on Twitter and/or Facebook, tag ATSSA, and include the hashtag #Orange4Safety
  • ATSSA may retweet/share your post
  • Also, retweet/share ATSSA’s posts to keep the word about work zone safety going

IF YOU CARE, SHARE!
